Someday you may find yourself with a beautiful spindle that happens not to be notched. How can you hook onto your leader yarn and spin, without the yarn slipping around the whorl of the spindle?
Ann D. invented the "X" wind-on to prevent such slipping. Simply wrap the shaft of your spindle with the yarn you've just spun in an up-and-down, "X" formation - similar to winding the bobbin on a weaving shuttle!
