Low-whorl spindles are usually very stable and easy for beginners to use. Though they can be used with a thigh-roll spin, most often they are used with a slower finger twist motion.
First, take a piece of yarn to make a leader using a half-hitch. Overlap the spun yarn with your unspun fiber by a few inches to make a secure join.
Gently give the spindle's shaft a little spin.
Begin drafting, allowing the twist to enter the drafting zone of the fiber with the inchworm drafting technique. Keep trying to feel the strength of the yarn you are spinning, so you'll know when the twist is running out and the yarn can no longer support the spindle. At that time, unhook your half-hitch, wind your yarn around the spindle's shaft, and then make another half hitch and spin again.
