Spinning from the fold is a fun way to control the draft of your yarn. Use it when you wish to make a semi-woolen-type (fluffier) yarn, or when you want to preserve color differentiation in a multicolored fiber.
First, tug at your fiber to separate a piece that is about the length of the individual fibers that make up your preparation.
Bend that length over your index finger.
Us the hook of your spindle to "grab" a little point from the center of your fiber, and begin spinning clockwise to form a leader.
When you have approximately 12-14" of leader spun, carefully unhook your spun yarn from your spindle, and begin winding it around your spindle shaft, under tension.
Then, continue spinning, drawing strands from the point of the folded fiber, creating a small drafting triangle coming off the tip of your finger. Pretend you're Spider Man!
Close-up video of the drafting zone will appear on another page.
